Labor Day Weekend cont'd

Yesterday morning, Austin and I were enjoying another day of laziness, both of us sitting in the office at our computers. We slowly realized it was getting warmer and the a/c was running constantly. Austin removed the panel to the central air unit and we found that it was completely encased in ice due to a dirty filter (we're thinking maybe the people who were here before let it go too long from the look of it). We stood with the hair dryer on it until it was ice-free, put in a new filter, and that took care of it. The next filter change date is clearly noted on our calendar now :-)

We tried a new place for lunch, similar Noodles & Co. but entirely Asian-inspired. We picked our protein, veggies, rice/noodles, and sauce and both had really good stir fry though they offer other dishes too. Austin was happy that it's so close to home so he can grab lunch quickly. After lunch, we went to a nearby cafe and had gelato- cinnamon for Austin and peanut butter for me. It was really good.

Then we ran a few errands and returned to a cool apartment. I made an Italian dish for dinner, the recipe from Rachael Ray, and actually the food wasn't great but we learned that she's not kidding when she calls for San Marzano tomatoes. We will definitely be using those again and in fact, a can of crushed tomatoes is so flavorful that you can use it as a sauce straight up. So that was a find and when you look at how much sugar and salt are added to jarred sauces, it's nice to find just tomatoes that work as well if not better.

No big plans for today other than lesson planning for me. Tomorrow I am taking another new class and I'm looking forward to it. Austin will be back for his four day work week.

  1. Ryan and I were too stupid to figure that out and let our AC ice up all last summer. What? We were new homeowners. This summer, we got smart and called the technician to come out and take a look at it. Turns out we have a leak and were loosing coolant. He filled it up, put a new filter and now it's good like yours! Hooray for you guys being smart.
